With the Baltic Sea beside the race, Ironman 70.3 Gdynia is a summer middle-distance triathlon in Gdynia, on Poland’s Pomeranian coast. The format is the standard 70.3: a 1.9 km swim, a 90 km road bike ride, and a 21.1 km run. It suits experienced triathletes, but it is also pitched at athletes using the distance as their next big step.
The run is broken into three loops of just over 7 km, which makes the final half marathon easy for supporters to follow and easy for racers to measure mentally. Gdynia adds a strong seaside setting, with the Aquarium and Museum of Emigration close by for visitors staying in the city. Racers who build a trip around the event can also reach Malbork Castle, the world’s largest Gothic castle, in under an hour, while the Hel Peninsula offers a quieter coastal escape after race day.
