The Grande Trail da Serra d’Arga is a three-day trail running event held in Portugal’s Serra d’Arga, covering the municipalities of Caminha and Viana do Castelo. Taking place in early October, it provides a range of distances: 100 km, 50 km, 31 km, 17 km, and 15 km, alongside a walking route and children’s races. The 100 km event presents the most challenging option, while the shorter races offer an accessible entry to the mountain weekend for less experienced participants.
The courses traverse technical mountain trails with significant elevation changes, deep valleys, wooded areas, and traditional villages. Carlos Sá Nature Events is the organizer, and the staggered schedule contributes to a festival atmosphere rather than a singular starting point. The long race commences on Friday, with additional races on Saturday. Sunday features the 31 km, 17 km, walking, and children’s events. Saturday also incorporates cultural activities and social gatherings, with award ceremonies scheduled throughout the weekend.
