6 sjöar translates to “six lakes,” and the marathon course indeed circles all six. The event takes place in summer at Fjällnora, an outdoor recreation area near Uppsala. The start and finish are located on a beach situated on an isthmus between two lakes. Participants can select from 5.5 km, 10.5 km, half marathon, or marathon distances, with each route covering at least one lake. The event is structured as a modest, community-focused trail-and-road race, not geared toward elite competitors.
The courses primarily consist of forest trails and secondary roads, with minimal asphalt segments. The surrounding landscape has extensive woods and numerous lakes. Organizers anticipate between 1000 and 1200 participants overall, with a limit of 500 runners per distance. A significant number of participants travel from other countries. Runners have the flexibility to change their chosen distance up to the final day, facilitating participation for groups of friends or family with varying paces. There is no prize money or special recognition for the fastest runners; the event caters to slower and medium-paced runners. It utilizes reusable cups, avoids excessive merchandise, and includes a post-race swim. A steam train might also be visible along the course.
