Blodomloppet Västerås takes place in late August at Rocklunda IP in Västerås, Sweden. It offers 5 km and 10 km races, alongside Lilla Blodomloppet for children. Over 5,000 participants can attend on race evening, marking it as a significant local event rather than a small club competition. The race is part of the larger Blodomloppet series across Sweden, which focuses on blood donation, health, and encouraging participation from workplaces and teams.
The Västerås event has been held annually since 1993, organized by Föreningen Blodomloppet Sverige, a non-profit association connecting sports clubs and blood centers. The region has supported team entries financially, contributing to the high group participation. Profits from the race are reinvested in youth sports activities and promoting blood donation. Competitive runners have opportunities for strong performances: Hassan Abdiqadir won the 10 km in 32:08, Klara Åkerman Sjöström won the women’s 10 km in 38:35, and Efrem Brhane’s 14:50 in the 5 km was a notable mark in the history of the Västerås Blodomloppet.
