Kistaloppet begins and ends at Jan Stenbeck's square, adjacent to Kista Galleria in northwestern Stockholm. This September event features a measured 5 km race for competitive runners, alongside shorter options: Lilla Kistaloppet or Fun Run (1.6 km) for children, parents, and casual participants, and Kistaloppet MINI for the youngest. The event is designed for families, and the #RUN4ZERO initiative allows participants to run without charge while advocating for equal health and increased daily physical activity.
The route showcases Kista's diverse character within a single race day: the high-rise buildings of the Million Programme, the natural area of Järvafältet, and the IT cluster that established the district's international tech standing. Music and entertainment are frequently present along the course, enhancing the atmosphere. The race also serves a distinct social mission, organized by Löparakademin. This non-profit organization works with junior high school students in Stockholm's Million Programme suburbs, using long-distance running to impart lessons in goal-setting and training discipline.
