Midnattsloppet Stockholm is a night road race on Södermalm, with late starts and distances for many ages: 5 km, 10 km, 21 km, 2 km children’s races, and a 200 m Mini race for the youngest kids. The 10 km is the original loop around Söder, while the 21 km sends runners around that course twice and has a 2 hour 20 minute time limit. The event draws both competitive runners and casual runners, and companies can enter teams for a shared evening out.
The course is relatively hilly, so it is not just a flat city cruise under the lights. Music, spectators, food, drinks, and entertainment line the route, giving the race more of a street-party feel than a standard road event. Thousands of runners join from Sweden and abroad, and the 10 km has previously reached 47,000 participants, which made it Europe’s largest 10K. Runner reports often point to the cheering crowds, the planned route through Södermalm, the post-race buzz, and the sight of everyone running in the same colored shirt as details that make the night feel shared rather than anonymous.
