The Malokarpatský kros begins and ends in the center of Plavecký Mikuláš, a village situated on the edge of the Little Carpathians in western Slovakia. The primary event is a cross-country run, typically listed as 7 km, though some editions have included a 9 km route. Children compete first in the afternoon, followed by the main categories, which include separate age groups for juniors, men, women, masters runners, and runners up to 70 years old.
The route crosses field and forest paths within the Malé Karpaty Protected Landscape Area, incorporating an asphalt section through Plavecký Mikuláš. This is not a flat road race; previous accounts mention heat, hills, and runners navigating challenging terrain. The event also provides opportunities for young participants with races for children, youth, and juniors. One edition saw 143 children participate, with each receiving a medal. Local runner Lenka Kubisová organizes the race, assisted by the village and, in at least one instance, by her family.
