About this race
Orava 80 begins at 6:00 AM in Dolný Kubín, Slovakia, sending participants on an 80 km route through the Orava region for runners and long-distance hikers. The course involves a 3,750-meter climb, classifying it as a mountain endurance race, not a flat road ultra. It is also known as Orava 80 - Tatra Skymarathon and is part of the Tatra Skymarathon series.
The race honors Ján Ťatliak, a Slovak mountain-tourism advocate instrumental in developing hiking in Orava and the Western Tatras. His contributions included marking trails, organizing mountain events, and supporting the hut near Roháče, which evolved into Ťatliakova chata. This location served as a starting point for treks to Roháčske pleso, Volovec, and Tri kopy. During World War II, the original hut provided refuge for Jewish families and partisans. Today, Ťatliakova chata - Rohacká Bufet continues to operate at the original site.
