California State University Monterey Bay in Seaside hosts its yearly homecoming, a valued time when the Otter community unites to honor connection, tradition, and pride. This event, RAFT Weekend, serves as a gathering for students, alumni, and friends, marking a key date in the university's schedule. Among the activities, Monte's 5K provides a chance for a community run, set against the backdrop of this spirited weekend. Participants will find themselves in a festive atmosphere, experiencing the distinct OtterPride that characterizes the weekend's events and traditions.

The Big Sur River Run is an October benefit race in Big Sur, California, featuring a 5K walk/run and a certified, chip-timed 10K. The 5K is designated as a Family Fun Run or Walk, with adult and under-12 entries available for both distances. The event emphasizes participation alongside competition, welcoming walkers, families, local runners, and faster 10K competitors to share the same occasion, while prizes are awarded to the 10K winners and top finishers. Both routes consist of flat blacktop loops alongside the Big Sur River, crossing the redwood and oak grove campgrounds of Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park. The race benefits Big Sur Fire and the Big Sur Health Center, two local services vital in a remote coastal community where assistance may be distant. Since 1981, participants have helped fund these organizations through the event, which also includes live music and a post-race gathering. The rules ensure the road course remains clear: no bikes, dogs, strollers, wagons, or other wheeled conveyances are permitted, with the exception of wheelchairs.

The Santa Cruz Turkey Trot starts and finishes on Delaware Street by the back entrance to Natural Bridges State Park. Race headquarters are at Natural Bridges Drive and Delaware Avenue. The event features a 10K, 5K, and kids 1K, all on flat, fast out-and-back courses near the coast. The route goes through Natural Bridges State Park and heads toward West Cliff, offering runners ocean views on a straightforward course. The Santa Cruz Track Club provides signature finisher socks to all 5K and 10K finishers, and the top three overall runners receive prizes. Bib pickup is available at Santa Cruz Running Company before race day, with race-morning pickup and registration also offered.

Run Rudolph Run is a chip-timed 5K through Old Town Leander, part of the Old Town Rudolph Run series and built around a Rudolph holiday theme. It is a limited-entry race for runners and walkers, with strollers and leashed dogs permitted on the course. The course uses closed streets in Old Town Leander, is flat, and avoids hills or rough terrain, making it suitable for walkers, first-timers, and runners seeking a quick 5K. Participants are encouraged to wear holiday attire. Every entrant receives a race shirt and a custom finisher medal. Chip timing and the finish line remain active for 75 minutes after the start; later finishers may collect their medals from the Leander Chamber of Commerce.
