Ames Turkey Trot 2026

The Ames Turkey Trot starts and finishes at Fitness Sports - Ames, located at 410 5th Street in Ames, Iowa. This Thanksgiving Day 5K runs through downtown Ames, beginning at 9:00 AM. Following the main race, there is a 400-meter Turkey Tot Trot for children. The event welcomes runners and walkers of all ages and abilities, emphasizing family and holiday participation over competitive racing. The 5K course returns to its start after crossing downtown and other areas of Ames, offering a brief morning run or walk before Thanksgiving activities. Participants who finish receive medals and refreshments. Those who register early also get a race shirt. The Turkey Tot Trot for children takes place around Main and 5th Street, with participants receiving a coloring book and medal. Packet pickup is available at Fitness Sports - Ames the day before the race and on Thanksgiving morning. The Ames Community Grant Program supports this event.
