Freedom Run is a patriotic race name used by several community events. Formats range from a 5K and kids' races in Morgan Hill to the Freedom's Run Race Series, which offers a full marathon, half marathon, 10K, and 5K. The series includes a Harper's Ferry Half & 5K in May and a larger Freedom's Run event in October. Other Freedom Run events are tied to Independence Day festivals, military appreciation, or first-responder fundraising.
The Morgan Hill event allows runners to stay for the Freedom Fest parade and fireworks. Finishers receive a medal, running shirt, fruit, snacks, and a fireworks drink coupon or kids' light-up toy. The military-themed Freedom Run 5K starts with a Civil War cannon, uses a WWII Army jeep as the pace car, gives dog-tag medals placed by soldiers, lines the course with American flags, and adds military vehicles, camo-netting, military-style shirts, and soldier-statue trophies.
