Outlast Spokane is a six-hour trail challenge held in Mead, Washington, near Mount Spokane Road. Runners begin at 6:00 a.m. and complete six 5K laps, one each hour, finishing by noon. The race format requires completing each 5K within the hour; any remaining time can be used for rest and refueling before the next lap. Failing to finish a lap on time results in disqualification.
The course utilizes natural trails, presenting varied footing, elevation changes, and potentially shifting conditions each lap. While speed determines the top awards for the fastest combined 5K times in men's and women's categories, the challenge also favors endurance and consistent decision-making under fatigue. Completing four laps earns a "Grit Earned" patch, five laps a "Survivor" patch, and all six laps the OUTLAST medal. All finishers are also recognized on a national leaderboard.
