Red Dirt Ultra uses the Sandstone and Caroline Dormon trail system in Kisatchie National Forest, near Provencal, Louisiana. This February trail ultra offers 22-mile, 33-mile, and 66-mile options, allowing runners to choose a long trail race or a 100K-style day in the woods.
The course crosses longleaf pines, sandy ridges, and creek crossings, running alongside Kisatchie Bayou. The terrain varies with loose and hard-packed sand, rocks, mud, water crossings, climbs, descents, and runnable sections. Portions of the trail are shared with ATVs and horses. The 33-mile race gains approximately 3,000 feet, and the 66-mile race gains about 6,000 feet. Aid stations, staffed by experienced ultrarunners, provide vegan options at the mid-loop and finish. All distances share a midnight cutoff.
