The Running Pumpkin 2026

The Running Pumpkin is the Jared Coones Memorial Pumpkin Run/Walk, an annual October race-day gathering connected to Black Bob Elementary. It is structured as a run/walk, not an elite-only competition. The event honors Jared and Jayne Coones, with its stated purpose being family, community, and support for those affected by cancer. The series has taken place for 27 years, donating over $1.2 million to cancer research and organizations assisting patients and families. Recent participation included 2,774 registered athletes, an 11 percent increase from the prior event. Sponsors and volunteers are integral to this community effort. In addition to race results and awards, the day features fundraising activities like a silent auction, raffle tickets for Chiefs and NASCAR, online donations, and complimentary event photos for participants.
