The Iwate Morioka City Marathon is a 42.2 km road race held in Morioka, the capital of Iwate Prefecture in northern Japan. It takes place annually in late October, during which the city and nearby mountains display autumn foliage. The course crosses central Morioka, a city with a history as a castle town. Runners will see Mt. Iwate and a river known for its upstream salmon runs. Local residents provide significant support along the route, and many Morioka citizens volunteer on race day.

The Takuboku no Sato Fureai Marathon takes place in Morioka's Tamayama area, the home region of poet Takuboku Ishikawa. This community road race offers three distances: 3 km, 10 km, and a half marathon, divided into 27 divisions. Approximately 1,500 runners participate annually. A long-standing sports exchange connects the marathon with the Ayahashi Sea Road Race in Uruma, Okinawa; top Morioka half marathon finishers are sent to Uruma, and in turn, leading Uruma runners compete in this race.
