The Takuboku no Sato Fureai Marathon takes place in Morioka's Tamayama area, the home region of poet Takuboku Ishikawa. A long-standing sports exchange connects the marathon with the Ayahashi Sea Road Race in Uruma, Okinawa; top Morioka half marathon finishers are sent to Uruma, and in turn, leading Uruma runners compete in this race.
