The Sports Mate Run Imperial Palace Marathon is a small Sunday morning race covering the 5 km outer loop of Tokyo’s Imperial Palace. It starts and checks in at the Imperial Palace Clock Tower, with reception from 8:30 AM, a briefing at 9:10 AM, and all divisions starting at 9:30 AM. Runners can choose from six options: parent-child 5 km, open 5 km, 10 km, 15 km, 20 km, and a 20 km relay for four-person teams. Timing is available, finish certificates are issued on race day, and the field is capped at 200 participants.
The course consists of one or more laps of the Imperial Palace loop, depending on the distance. The 5 km and 10 km races have no time limit, while the 15 km and 20 km races are for junior-high age and older runners with a two-hour limit; anyone not starting their final lap by 11:00 AM is stopped. The parent-child race is for children from age three through elementary school with a guardian, and the relay is open to any four-person team with a 2 hour 20 minute limit. The venue is two minutes from Sakuradamon Station Exit 3, there is no baggage check, and runners receive bibs and race information at same-day reception.
