O wyścigu
Runners start and finish by the clock tower inside Sakuradamon Gate at Tokyo’s Imperial Palace. PSS organizes a small summer race here with 5 km, 10 km, 20 km, and 20 km relay options. The individual races cost 1,000 yen, and the relay costs 4,000 yen. The 5 km and 10 km runners have a 2-hour limit. The 20 km events have a 2-hour 40-minute limit, with cutoff checks at 10:15 for the 10 km halfway point and for 20 km runners entering their fourth lap.
The event uses the Imperial Palace running loop, so the finish returns to the Sakuradamon clock-tower area. Individual entries are capped at 100 people, and the relay is capped at 25 teams. The organizer describes it as “Japan’s most relaxed race”: late arrivals can still join, same-day entries are permitted, runners may switch categories on the day, and someone who stops early is recorded for the distance they actually covered instead of being marked as a dropout. An improvised distance, such as 15 km, is also possible. Every participant receives an award, a sports drink, an izakaya meal voucher, and a timing chip.
