O wyścigu
The PSS Imperial Palace Health Running event takes place at Tokyo's Imperial Palace, starting and finishing near the clock tower within Sakuradamon Gate. This summer event includes 5 km, 10 km, 20 km, and 20 km relay races. Entry rules are beginner-friendly, and most categories are limited to about 100 runners, with 25 relay teams. It serves as both a competition and a practice run. The 5 km and 10 km races begin simultaneously, while the 20 km events start earlier to ensure completion before the late morning heat.
The course involves multiple laps around the Imperial Palace, with the 20 km race covering six laps. Timing is done manually with a stopwatch and printer. Time limits are set as practical training goals: 5 km and 10 km participants have two hours, and 20 km runners and relay teams have two hours and forty minutes. The organizer refers to it as "the most relaxed race in Japan," a sentiment reflected in the accommodating rules. Late arrivals, same-day entries, category changes, early finishes with recorded distances, and even custom distances like 15 km are permitted. Participants have described it as inexpensive, accessible, beneficial for assessing current fitness, and suitable for marathon preparation.
