The Daniel A. Saldaña 5K is a 3.1-mile community race held in the McAllen, Texas area. The in-person event takes place at Edinburg Municipal Park, with a virtual option available for those unable to attend. It is scheduled for November and has an entry fee of $25.
The race aims to raise awareness for epilepsy and to honor individuals lost to SUDEP, or Sudden Unexpected Death in Epilepsy. Funds raised benefit Daniel’s Closet at STC Technology Campus, providing clothing for students, and also contribute to scholarships for students pursuing technology careers. Participants include runners, walkers, families, and virtual runners. Those who register by the deadline may receive a shirt and medal.
