Zanfel Orienteering Race # 3 is the final event in the series, taking place at the lake area on the south end of Waubonsie Park in Hamburg, Iowa. This is a run-or-hike navigation event where participants use maps and instructions to move through the park, searching for checkpoints instead of following a marked course. Check-in begins in the morning, with the race starting shortly thereafter. All participants have a four-hour cutoff to complete the course. Entry is priced per person and includes a shirt, medal, drinks, and snacks.
Maps, instructions, and punch cards are distributed at check-in, and assistance with map reading is offered before the event begins. The race is self-supported, meaning runners and hikers should carry essential items like a map case, phone, water, snacks, and a small pack. The Handy GPS app is permitted for use, and park permits can be obtained at the entrance. Participants can compete individually or in teams of two or three, with divisions for coed, men's, and women's.
