All three distances conclude on the sand at Mount Main Beach, adjacent to the Surf Club. The half marathon route encircles the Waikareao Estuary track, crosses the Harbour Bridge towards Mount Maunganui, and then loops the Mount Maunganui base track before the beach finish. The 11km also crosses the Harbour Bridge and incorporates the Astrolabe Corporate and Gym/Clubs teams race. The 5km utilizes the boardwalk and beach access paths, turning just past Leisure Island, and includes a lap of the Mauao base-track, ensuring the shortest race shares the same Mount-and-sand finish.

Trail Challenge Waihi guides runners and walkers through Karangahake Gorge, a historic river gorge near Waihi featuring old railway tunnels, gold-mining remnants, swing bridges, waterfalls, and native bush along the course. This off-road running and walking event accommodates all ages and abilities, offering flat riverside trails for those seeking flow and speed, alongside climbs up Mt Karangahake for participants desiring more challenging trail work. The route incorporates the gorge’s blend of railway history and rugged natural terrain: participants will run through tunnels, pass gold mining era relics, cross bridges, follow the river, and enter bush-covered sections. The event is designed for friends, families, regular trail runners, walkers, and first-timers looking for a course with more character than a typical road race.
