Crush the Cargill 2026

Crush the Cargill is a self-reliant mountain race in Dunedin, New Zealand, held at Bethune's Gully. The main event is a 24 Hour Challenge beginning Saturday morning. Longer 100 mile and 200 mile races start the previous nights for those seeking extended time on the mountain. The course is straightforward: ascend from Bethune's Gully to the Mt Cargill summit, descend, and repeat. Each lap covers 8.5 km with approximately 570 m of elevation gain, meaning the challenge lies in repeated climbing, not complex navigation. Inch Events calls it an "unorganised" event, requiring no entry fee and offering no support; participants must be self-sufficient. A koha is welcomed, with funds directed to the Valley Project.
