Carrera popular Hoz del Huecar
The Carrera popular Hoz del Huécar is a 15 km asphalt race in Cuenca, Spain, run through the Huécar gorge. This World Heritage setting features cliffs, old city views, and natural rock walls alongside the road. Promoted as the Gran Premio Ciudad de Cuenca, it is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Cities Circuit. The race begins and ends at Plaza España, employs chip timing, and has a field limit of 1,500 participants. The route is entirely on road, with approximately 100 meters of elevation gain and 100 meters of loss, classifying it as a road race despite reaching an altitude of about 1,100 meters. Participants are provided with four drink stations, wardrobe service, showers, and a finisher diploma. Trophies are awarded to winners, and prizes are raffled post-race. A portion of the proceeds benefits a charitable cause. As one runner noted, the course's appeal lies in its scenery, prompting participants to pause for photographs.
