OZEIWAKURA SKYVALLEY is a skyrunning race in Katashina Village, Gunma Prefecture, held in the mountain resort area around Oze Iwakura. It began in 2015 as Katashina’s first skyrunning race, with a course built to international standards under the idea of sending runners “from Katashina Village to the world.” The event now offers 9 km, 17 km, and 30 km races, suitable for a range of participants, not just specialists at the front.
The course’s defining feature is the Giant Wall, a slope steeper than 45 degrees that gives the race its clearest identity. OZEIWAKURA has also served as a selection race for the Skyrunning Japan Championships and Youth World Championships, allowing everyday entrants to compare their times with international competitors. Around 100 children join the kids’ race each year, adding a local, family aspect to an event that grew out of the former Ozeiwakura Vertical Kilometer.
