The Kaminoseki Strait Sunset Marathon begins at Roadside Station Kaminoseki Strait in Yamaguchi Prefecture and concludes at Kaminoseki Gakuen. This October event combines small-town running with sea views, local food, and a post-race hot spring visit. Participants can select from two half marathons, a 12 km fun run, a 3 km fun run, and a 10 km walk. Field sizes are intentionally limited: the main half marathon has a 200-runner cap, while the challenging half, each fun run, and the walk are limited to 100 participants.
The course was suggested by Kaminoseki Town residents, giving it a strong local character distinct from typical road races. The coastal half marathon follows the strait towards Nakano-ura Beach and returns, while the challenging half includes a climb to Kamimoriyama Observatory. For the initial 3 km through town, runners are instructed to stay left in two columns, highlighting the narrowness of the local roads. The finish reward is a coupon for free soft-serve ice cream, the participation prize offers a discount for Hatoko-no-yu hot spring, and a Fisherman’s Meal Buffet can be purchased post-race by runners or their guests.
