The Yubari Baribari Melon Run is a summer fun run in Yubari, Hokkaido, held at Mount Racey Ski Resort and timed for peak Yubari melon season. It prioritizes enjoyment over competition, offering 3 km, 5 km, and 10 km distances. Entry is open to participants aged four and up, depending on the course. The event is limited to 1,500 participants; the last edition saw 1,233 runners, a significant increase. The format suits families, children, older runners, out-of-town visitors, and local residents, as participants can set their own pace.
The route guides runners through Yubari’s streets and surrounding natural areas. Aid stations provide local sweets and Yubari melon products. The memorable finish-line prize is half a Yubari melon for every participant. Costumes are welcome, with awards for outfits themed around movies or Yubari, referencing the city’s film history. The venue also hosts Yubari Marche, featuring local food vendors and specialty producers. Since its inception, the race has used the slogan "Reunite! You vary!!", aiming to connect visitors, residents, companies, and future Yubari supporters.
