Toyama Time Trial is a July track racing series held at the Sports and Health Forest Park athletics stadium in Namerikawa, Toyama Prefecture. It focuses on straightforward distance races: 1000m, 1500m, 3000m, and 5000m. Participants include elementary school runners, junior-high and high-school students, adult club runners, novice track racers, and athletes aiming for specific personal bests. Entry fees are low compared to distance running, with reduced rates for students and a 500 yen option for the 1000m race for elementary school children.
All races take place on the track, offering a clear objective: choose a distance, achieve an official-style effort, and record your time. The 3000m and 5000m races have time limits, while shorter races accommodate less experienced runners. The 1500m, added after the series started, is favored by some runners for being easier to train for than longer middle-distance events and manageable in warm weather. Competitors also note the presence of pacers, even in small 1500m fields, which reduces the isolation of a solo time trial. The event intentionally attracts a diverse crowd: individuals unable to enter formal competitions can participate, while regular 5000m runners return for another attempt at their target times.
