The Ueno Onshi Park Early Morning Genki Marathon is a small Tokyo park race utilizing a 2.5 km loop within Ueno Onshi Park. Race reception is by the central large fountain near Ueno Station’s Park Exit. The event begins early: 5 km runners start first, followed by 10 km runners, and then the 2.5 km individual and family races conclude the morning before the park becomes busy. The marathon offers individual, pair, and family divisions. The pair and family fields may close registration early if they fill up.
The course guides runners through Ueno’s park roads, passing the Saigo Takamori statue and World Heritage sites. Most of the loop is shaded by dense tree cover. Earth Run Club measures the course using wheel-based tools, as GPS watches and phone apps can be unreliable in the park’s wooded sections. Pair and family teams must start and finish together. All family finishers receive completion medals, and top individual and pair runners are given awards. Participants are instructed to arrive already dressed for the race, as there are no changing rooms. Everyone must submit a printed health check and pledge form at reception.
