The Blazing Saddles Century begins at Triton Regional High School in Byfield, Massachusetts. Riders travel through the rural North Shore and southern New Hampshire in late summer. This supported century-style cycling event offers several distance options, ranging from shorter rides of approximately 36 miles to a full 100 miles. Gravel routes of 36 or 52 miles are also available. With a rider limit of 350, it maintains a feel closer to a club ride than a large-scale event.
The routes feature rolling hills, long open flats, and country roads passing rivers, lakes, salt marshes, bridges, New England churches, town halls, and farms. The 100-mile route includes rest stops around miles 25, 50, and 75. Shorter road routes have fewer stops. SAG support and mechanics are available for minor repairs. Half of the net income benefits bike-related charities, including the Coastal Trails Coalition, the East Coast Greenway, MassBike, and the Topsfield Rail Trail. The event concludes with a simple post-ride lunch of pizza, hot dogs, veggie dogs, roll-ups, chips, and drinks.
