CURREX Alsterlauf

The CURREX Alsterlauf is a fast city-center road race in Hamburg, held in September with Ballindamm serving as the start and finish. The main event is a 10 km race, complemented by a 5 km, a 1 km Schülerlauf for children, and the R5K-'Sub 22' 5 km race for young ambitious runners. The course is flat, fully asphalted, officially measured to World Athletics/AIMS standards, and marked with clear kilometer signs, making it suitable for runners aiming for a specific time as well as those participating in their first organized race. The 10 km route encircles the Outer Alster, giving the race a distinct Hamburg character: one lap around the lake from the city center. Shorter races remain primarily on the Ballindamm loop, occasionally utilizing an Inner Alster variation. Traffic is excluded from the course, and participants range from children aged 6 to 13 in the Schülerlauf to 10 km runners aged 12 and older. The event was previously known as the Barmer Alsterlauf, and its 10 km race is one of the largest in Europe.
