Liège is a Meuse valley city where Belgian cycling talent peaks — the Ardennes climb steeply to the south, and the Tour of Flanders finish line sits 50km away. Runners get flat river routes along the Meuse but will find serious elevation training in the hilly Ardennes within 20km; the Duathlon d'Ocquier and Duathlon de Hannut attract local endurance athletes mixing road and trail. Cyclists dominate here — gravel routes thread through the southern forests toward Spa (600m), and the Ardennes classics like Liège–Bastogne–Liège are born from these roads.
