Hier laufen wir Locals am Arkansas River Path, im Exploration Place Park, Sedgwick County Park, Sim's Park und Pawnee Prairie Park, wenn wir einfach ein paar entspannte Kilometer ohne viel Tamtam machen wollen. Run 316 trifft sich montags um 6:30 p.m. im Sedgwick County Park und samstags um 8 a.m. im Naftzger Park. Run Wichita sorgt dafür, dass die Woche mit Tuesday Night Track runs, Thursday Social Runs und Saturday Long Runs gut durchgetaktet ist. She Runs This Town hat hier in der Wichita-Region etwa 2.300 Mitglieder. Die Wichita Mile, der Golden Harvest Half Marathon & 5k/10k, Fidelity Bank River Run und Moonlight Madness 10K sind die echten Highlights im Laufkalender.

Als Radfahrer nutzen wir Locals den Arkansas River Path für entspannte Z2-Runden in der Stadt, den Redbud Trail von der Innenstadt bis Augusta und den Prairie Sunset Trail, wenn die Beine mal etwas mehr gefordert werden wollen. Bicycle Pedaler organisiert jeden Montagabend von April bis Oktober eine no-drop gravel ride, die so 20-25 miles lang ist. Coasters Bicycle Club, Prairie Travelers, Sunday Dose of Vitamin G, ICT Gravel After Dark und Women of Wednesday sorgen dafür, dass immer genug Gruppenfahrten im Angebot sind. Thunder Road bei Augusta ist ein echter Wichita Classic. Die Anstiege liegen in den sanften Hügeln außerhalb des Flusstals, wo DThng #9 über 44.8 km 234 m hochgeht und Derby Thursday Night Gravel PM#7 über 49.9 km 251 m raufgeht.

Von März bis November haben wir hier in Wichita die besten Monate zum Radfahren, und Läufer sammeln in dieser Zeit auch ordentlich ihre Grundlagenkilometer. Im Sommer ist es morgens manchmal erst kühl und feucht, wird dann wärmer, vielleicht etwas weniger schwül, und mit etwas Glück gibt's am Ende noch eine Brise. Boats & Bikes vermietet von Mai bis Oktober, da kann man also easy auf den Arkansas River Path und in die Downtown-Rides einsteigen. Der Winter ändert eher den Rhythmus als die Einstellung. Bicycle Pedaler veranstaltet von November bis März jeden Montagabend um 6pm eine Zwift Ride, und Läufer nutzen weiterhin die track nights, social runs und long runs, solange das Wetter mitspielt.
