Flandrienne by HIPRO is a women-only road cycling event held in Ghent, within Belgium’s Flanders region, at the end of August. Participants select from three distances: 50 km, 80 km, or 120 km. This allows the day to be either a relaxed group ride or a demanding challenge on Flemish roads. The event is organized by Peloton and is part of the Proximus Cycling Challenge, concentrating on women who enjoy cycling rather than a men’s race with a small women’s component.
The 50 km Ride & Shine route offers a gentle effort and concludes along the Scheldt. The 80 km Rule the Road option includes more challenging ascents like Kauwenberg and Tempelstraat, whereas the 120 km Femme Fatale route extends towards the Pays des Collines before returning to a finish by the water. Linde Merckpoel and professional cyclist Mieke Docx have supported the event’s promotion. Docx’s sentiment aligns with the event’s ethos: the day centers on riding collectively, supporting one another, finding humor during difficulties, and appreciating the minor moments. Following the ride, the event offers a terrace drink instead of a typical feed-stop, featuring a Flandrienne cocktail or mocktail.
