Appenninica MTB Stage Race is a five-day mountain bike stage race on the Apennine ridge between Emilia-Romagna and Tuscany, held in late June. Riders compete solo, with separate overall standings for men and women. The complete route covers approximately 310 km with 11,000 meters of climbing. Registration can close early, with a waiting list for those who miss the initial sign-up period.
The race has begun in Lizzano in Belvedere and concluded in Castelnovo ne' Monti, crossing the provinces of Bologna, Modena, and Reggio Emilia. The course incorporates major Apennine landmarks like Corno alle Scale, the Cimone area, Mount Cusna, and Pietra di Bismantova, presenting a challenging mountain week rather than a relaxed trail tour. Participants come from numerous countries, with significant representation from Northern Europe, alongside racers from South America and the United States. Host towns establish the race village centered on local hospitality, with the cuisine contributing to its draw: this is a demanding MTB race where recovery involves authentic Italian food following each stage.
