HERO Südtirol Dolomites begins and ends in Wolkenstein in Gröden, known in Italian as Selva Val Gardena, located in South Tyrol, northern Italy. This mountain bike marathon in the Dolomites offers routes of 60 km, 71 km, and 86 km. The shortest route includes 3,200 meters of climbing, the middle route approximately 4,100 meters, and the full marathon reaches 4,500 meters. The race occurs annually, taking place the day before Sellaronda Bike Day, transforming the Sella area into a cycling weekend.
The courses encircle the Sella massif, crossing the four Ladin valleys of the Sellaronda. The terrain extends to the Seiser Alm and the Dolomite passes of Gröden, Campolongo, Pordoi, and Sella. Participants will find extended climbs, challenging descents, and significant elevation changes, ensuring even the 60 km route is a demanding undertaking. Elite competitors participate via the HERO UCI Marathon World Cup race, while licensed riders and serious amateur mountain bikers can choose the HERO Südtirol Dolomites distances. The event also features HERO KIDS for younger participants, broadening the weekend's scope beyond the main marathon without altering the intensity of the adult race.
