Drenthe Loopfestijn is a late-May running event in Klazienaveen, a village in Drenthe in the northeastern Netherlands. It offers a marathon, half marathon, 10k, and 4-mile race. The event is annual, combining racing with a local village day, providing a timed challenge for serious runners and space for recreational and local participants. Official MYLAPS BibTag timing is used, with separate podium ceremonies for each distance. Youth races and clinics are held alongside the adult events.
The marathon is a single 42.2-kilometer loop through Klazienaveen and the surrounding Drenthe countryside. The shorter races use different routes. A notable section runs through Bargerveen nature reserve, featuring potential cotton grass blooms and a low, white peatland landscape. The marathon rejoined the program after a seven-year absence, coinciding with the 40th edition of the Loopfestijn. Participants may include runners aiming for specific times, like sub-three-hour marathon pace, as well as club runners, locals, and those completing a province-by-province running project.
