GravelBirken begins and ends in Lillehammer, taking participants into the surrounding mountain terrain on gravel bikes. Two distances are available: GravelBirken 100 covers approximately 110 km, and GravelBirken 200 spans about 195 km. The 200 km route requires riders to adhere to the official GPS track, handling their own navigation and battery management throughout.
The course features gravel roads winding through forests, mountain farms, and highland landscapes, with extended ascents and swift descents, distinct from a flat road race. Participants aged 17 and above are eligible. The event is part of the broader Birkebeiner world, included in the Birkebeiner Triple as an unranked category. Despite its recent establishment, the race embodies the same mountain-event spirit as the established Birken races.
