Find Your Way Home begins and ends at Halswell Quarry in Christchurch, New Zealand. The race starts with a twist: teams board a bus, don blindfolds, and are dropped at an undisclosed location. Once the bus stops and the blindfolds are removed, the task is straightforward in concept and challenging in execution: return to Halswell Quarry. The distance is approximately 21 km or more, as there is no set route, marked course, provided directions, or GPS permitted. The event commences in the morning and is contested by teams of two, with entries limited to 100 teams.
The route is determined by each team's chosen path through and around Christchurch after they deduce their drop-off point. Navigation, pacing, local knowledge, and decision-making are as critical as running speed, as an incorrect turn can significantly increase the distance. This format resembles a minimalist adventure race more than a standard half marathon: no directional arrows, no kilometre markers, and no common path for all participants. The event also generates funds for the Canterbury West Coast Air Rescue Trust, connecting this unusual challenge with a local charity.
