The Highlander MTB by Whaka100 begins at Te Puia in Rotorua, near the geothermal area featuring the Pohutu Geyser, and concludes at Lake Tikitapu in New Zealand's Bay of Plenty. This point-to-point mountain bike race takes place in May, offering 10km, 30km, and 60km distances suitable for a short off-road ride or a longer forest course.
The course crosses the Whakarewarewa Forest trail network, a Rotorua riding area known for its quality trails and fast singletrack. The 60km race is restricted to standard bikes. The 30km distance offers separate categories for non-eBikes and eBikes, while the 10km option is open to all, including eBikes. The event is organized by the team behind Whaka100 and supports the Rotorua Trails Trust, which aids the local trail system.
