UR70K Barcadouro is a 70 km ultramarathon in Vila Nova de Gaia, situated across the river from Porto in northern Portugal. It takes place in late June, beginning early in the morning, with the entire course contained within Gaia. Participants can compete in the 70K solo, as a pair, or as a two-person relay, accommodating both individuals tackling the full ultra and teams dividing it into two 35 km segments.
The course traces Gaia’s waterfront, crosses urban areas, and utilizes bridges or viaducts. Solo runners and pairs encounter a checkpoint at 35 km with a time limit, while relay teams make their exchange there before commencing the second 35 km leg. The race requires participants to be self-sufficient, navigate using a GPX track, and carry a GPS tracker, with support vehicles overseeing the runners. Its inaugural edition featured a modest field of 35 athletes, lending the event a more intimate ultra character rather than that of a large-scale city race.
