Tjurruset is a muddy trail race in Norra Djurgården, Stockholm, held in October with adult distances of 5 km and 10 km. The organizers refer to it as “the dirtiest running party of the year,” a fitting description for a race where completing the course is prioritized over maintaining a clean appearance. It welcomes both beginners and experienced runners, making the field resemble a communal outdoor challenge more than a formal road race.
The route crosses forest paths, mud, wet areas, and technical sections that require runners to adjust their pace, choose their footing, climb, splash through water, and find humor in the situation. Children can participate in their own races: Kalvruset, approximately 3 km, and Lilla Kalvruset, approximately 700 meters. Event photographs often highlight challenging obstacles, muddy expressions of enjoyment, the finish line area, and spectators lining the course. Marathongruppen, in collaboration with local athletics clubs Hässelby SK and Spårvägens FK, organizes these races, with proceeds supporting local sports.
