About this race
City to Surf is a Perth community fun run from the city centre to the beach, held in late August and running since 1975. The main distance is 12km, starting on St Georges Terrace in the CBD and finishing at City Beach, with a shorter 4km option for families, walkers, joggers, and first-timers. It is a road event with gentle rises and dips rather than a flat-out track race, and the mild Perth winter weather usually makes it approachable for people who want to walk, run, or roll the course.
The 12km route heads west from the urban streets of central Perth through the western suburbs before reaching the Indian Ocean at City Beach. The event supports people living with disability and welcomes wheelchair users as well as runners and walkers of all abilities. Teams are encouraged, and both distances finish at the same beachside area, where the Finish Line Carnival adds live music, food, and a post-race gathering for participants and spectators.
