The TCS Sydney Marathon presented by ASICS is a 42.195 km road marathon in Sydney. It starts on Miller Street in North Sydney and finishes on the forecourt of the Sydney Opera House. The race is held annually in August and has World Athletics Platinum Label status, with a seven-hour course cut-off. It is the newest Abbott World Marathon Major, joining the global circuit with Boston, London, Berlin, Chicago, New York, and Tokyo.
The route offers runners two iconic Sydney landmarks: crossing the Sydney Harbour Bridge and finishing beside the Opera House. Entry is via a public ballot, elite invitation, or an Australian Championship place, with championship standards of 2:30 for men and 2:50 for women. The race also includes the Australian Athletics Marathon Championship as part of the Chemist Warehouse Winter Series. Recent editions have seen large fields, with approximately 35,000 runners starting and nearly 33,000 finishing, creating a day that combines international elites, competitive Australian championship runners, and thousands of participants aiming for a World Marathon Major finish.
