About this race

The TCS Sydney Marathon begins on Miller Street in North Sydney and concludes at the Sydney Opera House, offering one of road running's most recognizable finish lines. Held in late August, the event originated from the Sydney Olympic Games and is now part of the World Marathon Majors. It stands as Australia’s largest running event, accommodating approximately 32,000 participants from over 102 countries. The race weekend also features a 10K, a 5K Mini Marathon, and a wheelchair race, attracting a diverse field beyond just marathon specialists. The marathon course showcases central Sydney directly: runners cross the Sydney Harbour Bridge, traverse The Rocks, pass the Museum of Contemporary Art, and proceed towards St. Mary’s Cathedral before the Opera House finish. Musical performances and on-course entertainment contribute to a city festival atmosphere rather than a subdued race. The broader course vicinity also places runners near significant sporting venues like the Sydney Cricket Ground and Allianz Stadium, with the Opera House adding a final touch of local history – three cranes were brought from France during its extensive construction.
