2019 Truth or Consequences 2026

FRI, August 14, 2026 · Jarrahdale , Australia

About this race

Runners at Truth or Consequences begin by crossing the Rio Grande on foot, indicating this is not a typical road race with desert scenery. The Desert Ultra is a small autumn trail event in Truth or Consequences, New Mexico, offering 50 km, half marathon, and 10 km distances. It takes place on unpaved trails, jeep roads, and single track in the high desert near town, starting at approximately 4,200 feet and climbing to about 5,500 feet. The race typically occurs around Halloween weekend, incorporating costumes, with reported sightings of turtles and flamingos on the course. All distances commence and conclude beside the river at Rotary Park. Runners proceed on a dirt road for about 1.5 miles before entering a sandy, rocky arroyo and ascending 500 feet to an aid station. The 10 km follows a loop with an out-and-back segment, while the half marathon proceeds onto the 8-mile Hidden Valley Loop. Longer routes extend through arroyos, former mining locations, and the foothills of the Caballo Mountains. The participant limit is 75 runners, and there is no prize money. The event emphasizes challenging local trail running over a large competitive production. Truth or Consequences Brewing Company sponsors the race, with proceeds benefiting the Turtleback Mountain Footbridge and Trail project. The finish area includes live music, vendors, local food, a beer garden, and the customary local recovery method: a soak in the town’s hot springs.
