About this race
UCI Granfondo Belgium is a road cycling gran fondo centered on Lac de l’Eau d’Heure in southern Belgium, close to the French border. The event is part of the UCI Gran Fondo World Series, utilizing Belgium's largest lake region as its base, with riding divided between a long granfondo and a shorter mediofondo.
The granfondo spans 138 km with over 2,100 m of elevation gain, composed of a 33 km opening loop and four 24 km local laps. The road ascends shortly after Cerfontaine, featuring a 3 km climb at 3% gradient and a more challenging 1 km section reaching 8%. Each local lap includes the Petit Poggio, a 700 m climb averaging 6.3% with a 9.3% pitch at its beginning. On the final lap, the course heads towards the Lac de l’Eau d’Heure dam, concluding after a steep 3 km ascent from Cerfontaine. The mediofondo follows the same opening loop and three local laps, covering 114 km and more than 1,800 m of climbing. The lake area consists of five artificial lakes formed by dams, providing an unusual setting for Belgium: consistent ascents, border-region roads, and a finish directly linked to the reservoir landscape.
