BC Road Race Championships

The BC Road Race Championships are part of Thrashers Bike Club's spring cycling series in BC. The road program features one circuit race, four classic road races, and The Monument of BC. The provincial road race title event and the BC Time Trial Championships are scheduled on the same calendar. This series is organized by a club, not a single one-day race. Riders can compete in various formats throughout the spring: circuit racing, longer road races, a monument-style event, and time trial racing. Thrashers Bike Club also includes mountain bike and cyclocross events within its broader local racing program, catering to riders who participate in multiple disciplines.

Bear Mountain XC Bike Race

The Bear Mountain XC Bike Race takes place in Bear Mountain Park, Mission, British Columbia. Held annually in May, it offers participants three distance options: 12 km, 20 km, or 40 km. The 12 km course features over 550 metres of climbing, the 20 km route includes approximately 987 metres of ascent, and the 40 km option, a double loop of the main course, provides around 1,974 metres of climbing. Consequently, the 12 km serves as a challenging yet accessible introduction for new racers, while the 40 km is designed for seasoned riders with strong endurance. The terrain consists of technical singletrack with steep ascents and rapid, flowing descents. Success requires not only physical conditioning but also proficient bike control on narrow or fast sections of trail. The 20 km distance offers a balance of speed, technical challenges, and endurance, without the commitment of the full two-loop race. Heads or Trails organizes the event, which also generates funds for Mission Search and Rescue and the Fraser Valley Mountain Bikers Association, connecting the race to local trail stewardship and emergency services.

Bear Mountain Trail Running Race

The Bear Mountain Trail Running Race takes place in Bear Mountain Park, Mission, British Columbia, offering 8k, 15k, and 30k routes on mountain trails. The format is straightforward trail running: select a distance, ascend with effort, descend quickly, and navigate varied terrain instead of paved surfaces. The 8k course includes a 330-metre climb, the 15k has a 770-metre climb, and the 30k course features a 1,540-metre climb, indicating that even the shortest option presents a significant challenge. The routes are designed with demanding ascents and rapid, flowing descents. A 500-metre out-and-back children's race will start from the main start line. Heads or Trails organizes the event. Their broader series also features an XC bike race, aligning with the area's mountain sports focus. The race benefits Mission Search and Rescue and the Fraser Valley Mountain Bike Association, with Life Cycles Bike Shop serving as a sponsor.

About cycling & running in Abbotsford

Abbotsford-Mission Training Ground

Running: Locals run Discovery Trail when they want steady base miles without much fuss. Discovery Trail feels like a nice change of pace, and it is mostly free of vehicles. Mill Lake works for easy laps, and locals still say it never hurts to rip around Mill Lake a couple times. The 5K route keeps the pace honest. Abbotsford Run Group gives the week some structure. Run for Water 5K, Run for Water Trail Race, and Abbotsford Run Group Thursday Nights Spring 2026 are the anchor events.

Cycling: Locals ride a deep menu here, with 339 cycle routes around Abbotsford. 0 Ave stays flat and straight, so locals like the visibility for Z2 and intervals. Matsqui flats and Sumas flats give quiet country roads with great mountain views. The route runs 6 km and climbs 42 m. The route runs 4 km and climbs 1,294 m. Bear Mountain brings the harder climbing. THRASHERS BC, Bear Mountain XC Bike Race, BC Road Race Championships 2026, and Spring Series Finale at Thunderbird XL keep the race calendar sharp.

Season: July and August are the best months for cycling, and most people ride then. Summer gives road riders the cleanest window for base miles on 0 Ave, Vye Road, and the longer Abbotsford - Chilliwack or Mission-to-Agassiz days. Trail runners use Sumas Mountain and Bear Mountain when they want vert, and road runners keep Discovery Trail and Matsqui Trail Regional Park in the rotation. Winter changes the feel for both sports. Locals lean more on steady running, shorter loops, and familiar paved routes, while riders keep the road work practical and save the bigger gran fondo miles for brighter months.
