Saskatoon Heartbeat Run

The Saskatoon Heartbeat Run is a September running and walking event held in Kiwanis Memorial Park on Spadina Crescent East in Saskatoon. It begins in the morning with short, accessible distances: a 1 km fun run, a 5 km run/walk, and a 10 km race. A 3 km walk is also available during registration. The event is designed for a broad audience, including individuals who have experienced a cardiac event and seek a manageable way to engage in activity with family, friends, or colleagues. The race directly supports heart care in Saskatchewan. Registration fees and donations benefit the Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital Foundation’s Mending Little Hearts Fund, which provides funding for pediatric cardiovascular care. This marks the event's 13th year. Every participant receives a commemorative cotton race shirt, with supplies assured. The atmosphere feels more like a community run focused on activity, recovery, and supporting heart patients, rather than a competitive race.

Rainbow Run Presented by Co-op

The Rainbow Run Presented by Co-op begins at Market Square in Saskatoon, Canada, with participants wearing bright Pride colours instead of typical race attire. This is Saskatoon Pride’s yearly running event, taking place during Pride Month. The program offers a 10K, a 5K, a 2.5K Family Fun Run, and a high-heel dash. Entry is limited to 500 participants, following a sell-out of the last event. Individuals can register or form a team. The races occur throughout the morning by distance: the 10K first, followed by the 5K, then the family run, and concluding with the high-heel dash. Costumes are encouraged, with awards for the most creative outfits. The event originated from runners seeking a fitness-oriented method to support Saskatoon Pride, a volunteer group that also organizes the city’s Pride Parade, Pride in the Park, the Pride Artisans’ Market, and the Community Services Fair. Saskatoon Pride’s parade has a history of over twenty years and is the largest parade of its type in Saskatchewan.

About cycling & running in Saskatoon

Saskatoon River Miles

Running: Locals build most runs around the South Saskatchewan River, where the Meewasin Valley trails give you gravel paths, rolling hills, and easy Z2. The trail runs 5 km one way from 2703 Spadina Crescent East with hills, rocks, roots, and uneven terrain. The Ravine Drive loop gives you 8 km and 71 steps, and the Gordie Howe Bridge/Diefenbaker stairs route runs roughly 14 km out and back. Urban Adventurers, 9 Mile Run Club, Fast Five Fridays, and Mendel Riverbank ParkRun keep it social, and Run For Saskatoon 2026, the Saskatoon Heartbeat Run, The Popcorn Run Saskatoon, and Whiteswan Mile sit on the race calendar.

Cycling: Locals ride a mixed bag, and Saskatoon gives cyclists 530 mapped routes with 11,062 km of tracked distance. The city centre points wheels onto Spadina and the Meewasin trails, while die hard road cyclists head south for base miles on paved roads and gravel paths. One route runs 9 km with 1,227 m of ascent. Another route is a 2 km ride that climbs 571 m. Saskatoon Cycling Club, Western Cycle ride club, and Saskatoon Cycles cover rides, and The Big Pelican Ride anchors the calendar.

Season: May, June, July, August, and September are the clean months for stacking mileage, and most people get on their bikes in May and June. Summers stay warm, and late July into early August brings the peak daytime highs, so locals run early, ride early, and leave intervals for the right morning. Thunderstorms can roll in hard with torrential rain, hail, high winds, and intense lightning, and summer is the wettest season. Winter changes the kit more than the mindset, and multipurpose paths are cleared, winter rides start in November and run to the end of March, and Saturday fat-bike rides leave the Nutrien Wonderhub at 1 pm.
