IRONMAN 70.3 Hradec Králové begins in the historic center of this Czech city, taking athletes into the River Labe, or Elbe, for a 1.9 km swim. This summer half-distance triathlon features a 90 km bike leg and a 21.1 km run, with a cap of 1,750 athletes and an 8 hour 30 minute limit. The race center is located on the riverbanks, and the finish line is on Masaryk Square, keeping the main event closely connected to the old city rather than a distant location. The bike course departs the city center for the countryside of Eastern Bohemia before returning to transition by the Elbe. The run course follows streets and parks within Hradec Králové, including the area near the confluence of the Elbe and Orlice rivers. The broader weekend event also includes a 5150 Olympic-distance triathlon, a Pho3nix IRONKIDS race for younger participants, and an evening City Lights Run preceding the main races. The inaugural event attracted over 1,500 triathletes from numerous countries, with the city-center swim being a highlighted aspect afterward.
The Olympijský běh - Hradec Králové is a 5 km run taking place in Hradec Králové, a city within the Hradec Králové district of the Královéhradecký region. The listed distance, known as the “Pětka,” is Czech shorthand for a five-kilometre race, and the event is set for a Wednesday in June. This run is part of the broader Olympijský běh series, with official race details available at olympijskybeh.cz. The event is intended for general participants, not exclusively specialists. It is listed alongside other Czech race formats, including 10 km runs, marathons, half marathons, obstacle races, uphill races, relays, virtual runs, children’s races, and hour runs.
Running: Locals do easy miles where the Elbe and Orlice keep the city flat and honest. Moravské Předměstí forest park gives runners a natural cross-country loop without leaving town. The city centre works for sharper efforts, especially when Olympijský běh - Hradec Králové sends two laps through the forest park. OK99, TJ Slavia Hradec Králové, and TJ Sokol Hradec Králové give the local scene a serious club backbone. Hradubický běh is the all-weather anchor, with asphalt on the Hradec side and more nature toward Pardubice. Hradecký půlmaraton is the biggest running race in Eastern Bohemia.
Cycling: Locals ride Hradec for base miles first, then look south when they want more natural terrain. The west side gives more pavement, so it suits steady Z2 and group turns. HSK cycling team sits at the centre of the bike crowd, and the wider club scene is not casual. Decathlon Cyklomaraton Hradec Králové brings hobby riders to Malšovická Aréna. The race uses a 2 km circuit from Masarykovo náměstí. Prima CUP starts and finishes at Stříbrný rybník, and route A covers 65 km with 430 m of climbing. Slatina is where locals look when the legs need a climb.
Season: 1°C. Summer training feels simple here because the rivers, forest park, and Stříbrný rybník keep routes close and easy to stack after work. The record low hit 8°C on 2 August 1934. Runners shift intervals earlier or later, and cyclists use the flatter west side for tidy Z2 when the day gets heavy. 9°C. Winter pushes both sports toward shorter loops, firmer club habits, and cyclocross-style grit when the natural ground gets slow.
